A Better Toothbrush Holder
I wanted a better toothbrush holder
So I designed one
I built it in 3D
I printed it in reality
I primed it and sanded it
I'm painting it to look like porcelain
Update: I switched to an electric toothbrush so my design became obsolete. Well, it was fun! :)

Making a Tim Biskup Sculpture v02
I took another stab at trying to turn a Tim Biskup drawing into a sculpture. This time I did the modeling (after a quick lesson by Leon.) It was fun and challenging.
The reason it is made up of blocky shapes is because this is a step in a process. Later, the detailing and smoothing will happen when it is made of wax and you carve it away.
The first print turned out well enough.
After some experimentation the 3D print melted beyond repair. I won't do that again!
I made some tweaks on the computer, printed it 25% bigger and painted it yellow.
On second thought, I think Robin Egg blue looks better.

Sprukits Batman and Superman
Here's one of my favorite projects. Claude Hurd, lead animator, did all the animation. I did the lighting, comping and effects. Written by Noah Eichen and voiced by Andrew Volpe.
Thanks for checking it out!!

VRS Rip Spin Warriors!
I loved working on this project. The first 2 images were tests I did to get the client on board for the job. The last images are taken from the commercial. I had a lot of fun learning about materials.

Gears of War Style frame
I'm rummaging through old work that has outlived it's NDA ;D This is a frame where I was experimenting with materials, lighting and mood. A cool experiment I found here was a "curvature pass." A curvature pass is a render element in Vray. If you look in the cracks between the lips and also the eyes you'll see the color turns brown. The brown comes from the curvature pass. It's similar to an ambient occlusion pass except it's sharper and really finds any area that has a recess. It's a great way to add an extra layer of depth to a material like marble.

Warthog character model sheet
In the meantime I'll draw some armor. Leon will take the armor drawings into Maya and the process continues... :)

Long Weekend Sketching
Normally, I won't post my daily sketches - they're not very interesting. It's been a long weekend and I have a bit of drawings built up. My sketchbook drawings aren't as interesting as these drawings done on the Surface Pro 4 with Photoshop. I like my posts because a year or two from now when I look back at them I hope to see progress.
I find it difficult to understand a simple shape for the pelvis. Like, I get "it". I can describe it as this bowl shape that muscles/tendons attach to, but it's abstract for me. Admittedly, I have some work to do. I gotta understand how the pelvis attaches to the rib cage and the degree of rotation between the two. Lemma figure that out.

Bringing a Tim Biskup drawing to life
Here's a photo of the process to turn a Tim Biskup drawing into a sculpture. My friend Leon Coetzee sculpted the 3D model.
Artist secretly 3D scan Egyptian sculpture and release the file online.
The headline caught my attention:
I downloaded the file last night:
